Casambi integration
Casambi is a Bluetooth-mesh lighting-control standard used across the architectural lighting industry. Hundreds of luminaire manufacturers ship Casambi-enabled fixtures or Casambi-compatible drivers — including Flos, Occhio, Delta Light, Zumtobel and Luceplan among many others (see the full list at casambi.com/partner-directory).
With an Atios SmartCore or Atios KNX Bridge, plus a Casambi CBU-DCS, you can bridge any Casambi installation into Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, or SmartThings via Matter.
How it works
Your Atios device (SmartCore or KNX Bridge) acts as the DALI Master on its DALI bus. The CBU-DCS — Casambi's Bluetooth-enabled DALI controller — sits on that same bus and translates DALI commands into Casambi mesh messages that reach each luminaire wirelessly.
Google Home
or KNX Bridge
You can mix Casambi-bridged luminaires and hard-wired DALI lights on the same Atios device. Hard-wired DALI lights connect directly to the DALI port — no CBU-DCS needed for those.
What you can control
Once paired, your Casambi lights become standard Matter accessories. You get:
- On / off and dim to any brightness level
- Colour control for tunable white (DT8) and RGB fixtures
- Scenes and automations in your smart home app
- Siri / Google Assistant / Alexa voice commands
- Remote control when you're away from home
- Brand-specific extras where the fixture supports them (for example, height adjustment on motorised Occhio fixtures)
Known limitation
Up/down fading is not supported
When routing through a Casambi DALI gateway, the up/down fading command is not available. Step dimming and target-brightness commands work normally.
What you need
- An Atios SmartCore or Atios KNX Bridge
- A Casambi CBU-DCS DALI gateway (one or more, depending on your installation)
- Your Casambi-enabled luminaires (any brand)
- A Matter-compatible hub (Apple HomePod, Google Nest Hub, Amazon Echo, or SmartThings Station)
About the CBU-DCS
The CBU-DCS is powered directly from the DALI bus — no separate power supply is needed. It supports DALI Device Type 6 and Type 8, including tunable white and RGB. Each CBU-DCS counts as 3 DALI loads.
See Casambi's CBU-DCS product page for the datasheet. Casambi also offers other DALI controllers (Salvador Series 1000/2000/3000) and a KNX hybrid gateway (CGW-KNX) — these work on the same principle.
Firmware requirement
The CBU-DCS's DALI gateway function only works with Casambi Evolution firmware. Update your Casambi network before setup if needed.
Setting it up
- Install SmartCore and power the DALI bus — see SmartCore Mounting.
- Connect the CBU-DCS to SmartCore's DALI bus.
- Pair the Casambi luminaires to the CBU-DCS using the Casambi App.
- In SmartCore's Web Interface, run the DALI Configurator to discover the DALI addresses exposed by the CBU-DCS.
- Add the DALI lights in the Accessory Manager.
- Scan the Matter QR code with your chosen app.
