Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
What does the KNX-DALI Gateway do?
The KNX-DALI Gateway connects DALI luminaires to your KNX installation. It commissions the DALI lights, organises them into groups, and binds them to KNX group addresses, so your KNX switches, sensors, and visualisations control DALI lights directly. It has an internal DALI master for up to 64 control gear and 16 groups.
What do I need to control my DALI lights through KNX?
- Atios KNX-DALI Gateway
- A KNX TP installation and ETS for programming
- DALI luminaires connected to the DALI bus
- A network connection (Ethernet recommended) to reach the Web Interface
Do I need ETS?
Yes. The gateway is configured for KNX via ETS. You commission the DALI lights in the Web Interface, then assign KNX group addresses to them in ETS. See the DALI Configurator.
Can I use the KNX-DALI Gateway without KNX?
No. This product is a KNX-to-DALI gateway and requires a KNX system. If you want to control DALI lights via Matter without KNX, use the Atios SmartCore instead.
How many DALI lights can I connect?
Up to 64 lights and 16 groups on a single DALI bus.
Does the gateway power the DALI bus?
Yes. It has an integrated 250 mA DALI power supply, which you enable in the DALI section of System Settings. If you use an external DALI supply instead, disable the internal one so the two do not conflict on the bus.
Can I use it alongside other DALI masters?
Yes. The gateway supports DALI and DALI-2 (IEC 62386) with multi-master operation, so it can share the DALI bus with other DALI masters.
DALI & Colour
Does it support tunable white and colour (DT8)?
Yes. With a DT8-capable DALI driver in the fixture, the gateway supports tunable white (Kelvin) and RGB/HSV colour control.
Why doesn't my RGBW strip show colour control?
Most LED-strip drivers are not DT8-capable, even if the strip itself supports RGBW. Without DT8, colour control cannot be exposed. Use a DT8-capable driver. The datasheet lists DT8 colour control as tunable white (Kelvin) and RGB/HSV.
Needs confirmation
The KNX-side colour mapping detail (HSV datapoint maps to XY on DALI; RGBWAF not yet supported) is not covered by the gateway sources. Confirm the exact DT8 colour datapoint behaviour with Atios.
