Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
What does KNX Remote Access do?
KNX Remote Access lets you securely access and program your KNX installation from anywhere over the internet. You enable the Cloud Interface on the device, then connect from ETS and work on your project remotely as if you were on site.
What do I need for Remote Access?
- The Atios KNX Remote Access device (ADE-KD-IP)
- ETS 6.3 or higher for the Cloud Interface (ETS 6.4 or higher for Access Tokens)
- KNX Secure configured (IP Secure and Data Secure)
- A network connection to reach the Web Interface
- Outbound internet access to
https://*.atios.chon port 443
Do I need ETS?
Yes. Remote Access is used to reach and program your KNX installation from ETS. The Cloud Interface requires ETS 6.3 or higher, and Access Tokens require ETS 6.4 or higher.
Why is the Cloud Interface toggle greyed out?
The Cloud Interface toggle in KNX Settings is only available when the IP Interface, IP Secure, and Data Secure are all enabled. Set up KNX Secure first.
Access & Security
Do I have to set up KNX Secure?
Yes. KNX Secure is a prerequisite for Remote Access. IP Secure and Data Secure must be configured before the Cloud Interface can be enabled. See KNX Secure.
Who can connect to my installation remotely?
You choose. Enable Access with ToolKey so anyone with access to the ETS project file can connect, or disable it and issue individual Access Tokens instead. Each token can have an expiration date or be left open-ended, and tokens can be activated or deactivated at any time. See Configuring Access.
What is the difference between the ToolKey and Access Tokens?
With the ToolKey, anyone who has the ETS project file can connect. With Access Tokens, you control access per token: each can expire or stay open-ended, and you can activate or deactivate it individually. Access Tokens require ETS 6.4 or higher.
Is my Atios device secure?
Yes. Remote Access is built on KNX Secure, using IP Secure to encrypt the connection between the device and ETS and Data Secure to protect the device from unauthorized configuration changes.
